Member Code of Conduct

Jacksonville Rowing Club Member Code of Conduct – Masters Rowers

Jacksonville Rowing Club (JRC) serves as a community rowing program dedicated to the fair, generous and ethical treatment of others through exercise, social events, and athletic competition. We operate under the core principles of mutual courtesy, trustworthiness, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good citizenship.

A club is a reflection of its members. Therefore, members of JRC are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct, including responsible behavior and consideration for the safety and well‐being of others. We treat each other, our equipment, and behave in accordance with the club’s principles, both on and off water, and when representing the club at events/regattas. To remain a member in good standing, each member must pay all membership dues and applicable fees, in full, in a consistent and timely manner, and agree to the following:

Member’s Commitment to the Club

I will:

  1. Be respectful and considerate of others, fostering a safe, non-threatening environment.
  2. Put my safety and that of my teammates first. I will not engage in the use of illicit drugs or alcohol before or during rowing. I will not behave in a reckless manner, or take unnecessary risks, or act in a way which places anyone at risk of injury or property at risk of damage.
  3. Adhere to the published standards, policies, rules & regulations of the club.
  4. Recognize that JRC team members form one club, regardless of competitive level or seniority, cooperate with each other, demonstrate mutual courtesy, and provide positive feedback and constructive criticism at all times.
  5. Promote the spirit and culture of rowing, and the reputation of JRC through a club-first, team-first attitude. I will not engage in or encourage conduct that is detrimental to the club or fellow members, or otherwise engage in behavior that would bring the club or the sport into disrepute.
  6. Dress and behave in an appropriate manner, not only during practices/competitions, but at all times.

Club membership is a privilege, not a right. Any member may be suspended or removed from the club or the board with, or without, cause, upon decision by a majority vote of the board. Prior to any vote on termination, the respective member will be given a comprehensive description of the alleged offense(s) and be provided the opportunity to address the board to respond to/defend themselves against any charges. Unacceptable member behaviors that could result in the termination or suspension of membership privileges include, but are not limited to:

  • Failure to pay club dues, and other obligations including coaching and regatta fees within 60 days of incurring charge to member’s account
  • Willful violation of published JRC standards policies, rules & regulations
  • Willful disregard of club property/equipment
  • Engaging in or encouraging behavior detrimental to the club
  • Rude, vulgar, or ungenerous behavior
  • Malicious or libelous remarks regarding the club, its members, or officers
  • Criminal conduct of any kind
  • Abuse of trust in matters relating to club funds

I,                                                                 , agree to conduct myself in accordance to this code while I am a member of the Jacksonville Rowing Club. I understand that any breach of this agreement may result in disciplinary action up to and including suspension of rowing privileges and termination of membership.
