Guest Rower Policy

Jacksonville Rowing Club (JRC or the Club) views itself as part of the broader rowing community, both regionally and nationally.  Consistent with the policies of most rowing clubs, JRC allows two sessions per calendar quarter for an individual guest that is not a paying member of the Club.  The following is meant to provide clear guidance on how the JRC Board administers this Policy.

  • Should a Guest wish to row, she/he (or the JRC Member Sponsor) should contact the Boathouse Steward(1) . The Boathouse Steward will ask a number of questions to better understand the skills and capabilities of the Guest who would like to row with JRC under this Program.  Considering all of JRC’s interests, the Boathouse Steward will then approve or disapprove the Guest request and, if approved, will assign the Guest to a specific boat and provide any other applicable instructions or restrictions.
  • Under no circumstances will the Guest be able to row without a JRC (dues-paying) Member in the boat or if the total number of (rowing) Guests comprise more than 50 percent of the boat.  Any exception to this Policy must be approved by the JRC Board and will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
  • The prime intent of the Guest Program is to provide an opportunity for local residents with prior rowing experience to try the Club before joining.   As is customary with other rowing clubs, JRC also allows those visiting from out-of-town to row as a Guest.   In either case, no individual Guest may row more than twice in a calendar quarter, regardless of how many different JRC Members may request Guest rowing privileges for a specific individual, as that would violate the prime intent of the Program (to grow the Club).
  1. The current JRC Boathouse Steward is Mark Frampton.
