Happy New Year!

Attached is the JRC Race Prep training for the next 24 weeks. It culminates with the Southeast Regional Rowing Championships in Aiken, SC on June 28-29. This will be the only training email that you will receive from me regarding the 2008 sprint rowing season. Please pay particular attention to the notes following the training schedule, especially the first and last ones. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

As many of you know, my time in Jacksonville is coming to end, and I'll be leaving in a few months. Thank you to everyone who has followed my training suggestions over the past two years. I wish all of you continued success in rowing.

This Sundays level one class has been rescheduled for 2:00 PM instead of 11.

See you sunday, David.

Training for this week

This week some of the intervals reference “race pace”. This is the pace per 500m that you would row for a 1000m race. Remember that this pace is different on the erg than on the water, and also different depending on what type of boat you are rowing (i.e. 1x, 2x, 4+). Use the race pace that you currently have the ability to achieve, not your goal race pace that you plan on achieving at the end of the season. The best measure of your current race pace is a recent performance from a race. Of course, in a boat wind and water conditions may cause variations in your race pace, so adjust accordingly. If you do not have a speed coach installed on your boat, just use the training range intensities to monitor your training and/or vary the relative effort and stroke rating.

Weekly training for Jan 3-8th 2007

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a great holiday and enjoyed time with friends and family.

Attached is the first week of the 2007 JRC training plan. The format is the same as 2006. If you have questions about any of the training, please feel free to email me and I will clarify. The training program will prepare everyone to race at the U.S. Rowing Masters Nationals, which is being held in Oak Ridge, TN from August 9-12.

Race Prep practice will continue to be held on Saturdays at 7 AM. This Saturday, January 6th, Marley would like to meet briefly at 9 AM (after all boats are put away) in order to discuss the 2007 training program for the Race Prep group. If you are unable to make it this Saturday at 9 AM but are still interested in being part of JRC Race Prep, just send Marley an email and he will fill you in on the details.
