Youth Rowing Program

Whether you are an experienced rower or not, the Jacksonville Rowing Club has a program for you.  Rowing is a low-impact aerobic sport that exercises both the upper and lower body, and provides a complete cardiovascular and strength workout.  An experienced coaching staff helps rowers develop skills, improve technique and develop both strength and endurance. The youth programs provide First Coast students a great opportunity to enjoy rowing, stay in shape, meet new people, and, if they choose, to participate in interscholastic competition across the State.

Youth teams include representatives from several area schools, including Bishop Kenny HS, Mandarin HS, Yulee HS, Terry Parker HS, Sandalwood HS, Orange Park HS, Ponte Vedra HS, Douglas Anderson HS, Landrum Middle, Julia Landon Middle, LaVilla, home school and, in limited circumstances, students from Episcopal High School, Stanton High School and The Bolles School. We truly are a community program, offering interested and committed athletes the chance to train and compete with like-minded athletes from across the First Coast.

In addition, while our program initially focused on sweep events, our genesis was, and our continued emphasis today is, on teaching both rowing disciplines, sweep and sculling.  The scholastic season is predominately sweep oriented, but a sculling background not only makes a more proficient sweep rower, but improves those rowers’ chances for collegiate level rowing and creates a rower who can keep open the possibility of lifelong rowing ability.  Our rowers graduate from our program ready to enter the competitive collegiate experience or decide to come back to rowing as an adult rower when their education and career goals dictate.  We are happy to offer a program for any skill level and fitness plan.

JRC Juniors is made up of three distinctly different squads; our traditional Youth Rowing Program (emphasis on sweep, but continuing to offer sculling), our Middle School Program (a less intense program completely sculling based for children 9 – 13; introducing sweep rowing when physical developments permit), and our Select Scullers Program (high intensity sculling program for rowers from any program who want to take their abilities to a national and international level).  We have a program for just about every need or interest.
